Working with Artifacts from the Past
Commission piece: I was asked to create a bracelet recently, using finds from around the village where my workshop is in Mawnan Smith. My client is an avid detectorist and brought in this selection of coins that he found. I felt so privileged to work with these objects that have been long buried and resurfaced. These coins include Elizabeth I (1558-1603) and Longshanks (Edward I - 1272-1307).
Silver coins found in the village and made into a new heirloom by a silversmith in the same village, how amazing is that?!
I love combining my interest in archaeology with my silversmithing practice.
This commission came in just after I’d re watched The Detectorists (for the 100th time), which is the BEST television ever made! I think I’m going to have to stop denying it and just go out there and buy a detector!
